VOICE and Speech Workshops

March 1, 2008 by a.rawlings

Ciara Adams offers private and groups workshops in voice and speech.

Ciara Adams is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter, actor and arts educator. Ciara offers a series of workshops concentrating on vocal care, optimal vocal performance, and devised creation. After training at the Guildhall School of Music And Drama with voice specialist Patsy Rodenburg for three years, Ciara started a professional career which has always had a connection to arts education and good vocal practice. Ciara has lead workshops in the U.K. for Drama +, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Northern Stage (Newcastle), and the Contact Theatre (Manchester), and in Canada with Theatre Gargantua, bluemouth inc., Trent University (VOCABLE), Queen’s University (VOCABLE), as well as being on the artist roster for the Royal Conservatory’s Learning through the Arts. She is also a trained Lift instructor and works regularly as a therapist at The Listening Centre in Toronto.

A professional actor for 9 years, Ciara works in a wide variety of performance spaces under very different and challenging vocal circumstances. Highlights of Ciara’s performance history include Twelfth Night in Beijing, China and Ulaanbatar, Mongolia with The Guildhall, Peer Gynt in the Olivier Theatre at the Royal National Theatre in London, City of Sonnets with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and in Canada, four years as an associate artist with Toronto-based physical theatre company Theatre Gargantua, and a continuing relationship with the performance collective bluemouth inc., performing at site specific locations such as the AT&T building at Tribeca in New York City, to a funeral parlour in Toronto, to massive warehouse spaces- all of which presented very different vocal challenges.

Ciara is also a musician. She studied Opera at Queen’s University before moving to London, performed as the lead singer of a Trip hop band named Kymera in London in the late 90’s, and in February 2008 she released her second album on Decadent Rare Records in Canada entitled Last of the Bohemians.

The voice has always been at the centre of Ciara’s practice, both professionally and personally. It is an imperative to tool and is the core of her practice as an arts professional.
